NBA game action

Miami scored 86 opening half scores against the Grizzlies

The Heat claimed a crushing 146 to 114 victory over the Grizzlies in their first NBA match after guard Rozier was arrested over alleged unlawful sports betting.

Trail Blazers head coach Billups was also detained as part of a broad federal investigation into sports betting. Both men deny the allegations.

But, the Miami team were not distracted as they scored 86 first-half scores to lead Memphis by thirty-nine after two quarters, the biggest half-time advantage in the team's 37 year history.

Adebayo top-scored with 24 scores and afterwards stated Terry had the support of the team.

"We support him. Complete backing," Bam stated. "You support him through and through. That's our brother at the end of the day."

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra added: "Terry is somebody who is important to everyone. He's had a real positive impact on our team.

"We send our thoughts and our care for him as he faces the situation."

The Trail Blazers also won their first game since the arrests, with Brazil-born Splitter stepping in as interim coach in Chauncey's non-attendance and leading the team to a convincing 139 to 119 win over the Golden State Warriors.

"We all had positive times with Chauncey and his coaching style," Splitter remarked. "Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."

NBA Commissioner Silver 'Upset' over Arrests

Addressing the arrests for the first time, league head Adam Silver said he was "very upset" by the events of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the league and its fans than the fairness of the competition," he informed a broadcaster. "And so I felt uneasy. It was disturbing."

Silver further mentioned an league probe into the player's conduct in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a match he participated for the Charlotte Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans, discovered no wrongdoing.

"It was brought to our attention by the regulators and the betting companies," he added.

"We investigated the matter and were very transparent regarding it. And while there was that aberrational betting, we, honestly, couldn't find anything.

"The federal government has subpoena power... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the league office is unable to.

"Therefore, we've been working with them from that point. And, of course, what they revealed recently was an charge.

"Moreover two and a half years after, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in justice to Terry.

"Obviously, it appears unfavorable, but he's been suspended, and so it is a compromise in this case between upholding rights and investigating."
