The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.

The 27-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.

A Year of Consistency

Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a tour-best nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.

The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.

This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.

Record-Breaking Achievements

Sabalenka ended the season with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and collected a historic £11m in tournament winnings.

She received nearly 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.

Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".

Other WTA Award Honorees

• Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking a extended hiatus following the arrival of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
• Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
• Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after securing their second Grand Slam title together.
• Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five championship matches.

Recently, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third time.
